Vijayawada: Center has approved the state government’s plan to build around 47,000 houses Amaravati for the weaker sections. Center will give a grant of Rs 1.8 lakh for each housing unit Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana ,PMAY,
The development assumes significance as Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda criticized the YSRCP government during their visit to the state last month. The approval has come despite objections from TDP MPs and rebel YSRCP MPs. Raghuram Krishnam Raju,
According to sources, the government has decided to start the construction work on July 8, the birth anniversary of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy. The houses will be completed in six months before the next elections. The state had requested the Center to provide 50,000 housing units under the PMAY.
The Central Sanctioning and Monitoring Committee (CSMC) of the Ministry of Urban Housing and Poverty Alleviation gave its approval on Monday after studying the Detailed Project Report (DPR).
The state government allotted housing sites to 51,000 families in the R-5 area amid a legal battle between local farmers and TDP leaders. The government distributed housing plots to the poor from the CRDA limits after the issue was cleared by the AP High Court.
Subsequently, when the farmers of the Land Pool Scheme filed a petition, the Supreme Court refused to stay the distribution of housing sites.
The government itself will build houses in Amravati!
The farmers argued that the government has made R-5 zone by bringing amendments in the CRDA master plan.
The government said that the master plan mentions 5 per cent of the total limit for housing for weaker sections and the present allotment, 1170 acres, was only about 1.5 per cent of the total capital city master plan limit.
Though the beneficiaries of the YSR-Jagananna housing colonies were asked to build their own houses, the government has decided to construct all the houses in Amaravati itself to ensure speedy completion. The government is planning to switch to shear wall technology to meet the deadline before December.
