Chandigarh: In order to make buildings more energy-efficient and spend less on energy and CO2 emissions and reduce electricity usage, the UT Administration will notify the Chandigarh Energy Conservation Building Code (CHECBC) 2023 and chandigarh ecbc rules 2023,
The UT notified the draft CHECBC on Friday. It has sought suggestions and comments within 30 days, after which the code will be notified.
This code is applicable to commercial buildings or premises having connected load of 50 kW or more or contract demand of 60 kVA or plot area of building is equal to or more than 1000 sqm or built up area of building is equal to two or Another 2,000 sqm (excluding non-air-conditioned spaces in the basement) are intended to be used for more commercial purposes.
The provisions of the Code do not apply to plug loads, and to parts of buildings using energy for equipment and construction, unless otherwise specified in the Code.
If an existing building changes its connected load to 50 kW or more after additions or alterations or falls within any other prescribed qualification conditions, the building must comply with the code. Commercial establishments account for more than 30% of the city’s total electricity consumption.
Buildings built solely for private residential purposes are not covered by the code. The provisions of this code apply to the building envelope, mechanical systems and equipment.
