LUCKNOW: The UP government on Tuesday started construction of over 8 lakh houses under the PM Awas Yojana (Gramin) soon after the project got approval from the Union Ministry of Rural Development.

A top rural development department of the state said that the approval of the Center has been received after the continuous efforts of the CM.
Based on the proposal submitted by the UP government, the Center has approved Rs 10,000 crore for the construction of houses under the scheme. The homes are expected to be ready by March 2024.

A government spokesperson said that so far 27 lakh houses have been constructed in the state. PMAY (Rural). With the approval of more than 8 lakh new houses, he said, more than 35 lakh houses would be built under the scheme in rural areas in UP.
“The CM had written to the Center seeking 8,62,767 new houses in rural areas under PMAY (Rural). Around 27 lakh houses have been built in the state under the scheme in the last five and a half years. Of these, 26 Lakhs have been handed over to the beneficiaries.Out of the national target of 2.95 crore houses to be provided in India under this scheme, 35 lakh houses will be constructed in UP.
