Over 18 lakh houses sanctioned under PMAY-Gramin in Assam: Rural minister, ET Real Estate

Guwahati: Over 18 lakh houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Approved in Rural (PMAY-G) Assam State Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD) Minister Ranjit Kumar Das said on Friday that the construction of more than 11 lakh houses has been completed so far. Addressing a press conference here, Das said that the state covered over 19 lakh beneficiaries under PMAY-G.

“Since the inception of the program and in alignment with the objective of the program i.e. ‘Housing for All’, Assam has approved 18,30,400 PMAY-G houses.

“Of these, 11,63,417 houses have been completed, of which 7,59,163 have been built during the last two years,” he added.

Panchayat and Rural Development Minister said that a target has been set to complete the remaining by August 15 this year.

Das said that from the financial year 2022-23 till now, the state has spent Rs 12,504.79 crore for the implementation of PMAY-G.

He also said that the state government has so far provided land to 40,096 landless PMAY-G beneficiaries.

“To accommodate the landless PMAY-G beneficiaries, the State has taken the initiative of providing land for construction of a cluster of PMAY-G houses. To mobilize funds from various programs and CSR to provide other facilities in the cluster Simultaneous efforts are being made,” Das said.

He said that so far seven clusters have been completed covering 99 beneficiaries and work is going on in 19 clusters covering 838 beneficiaries in 10 districts.

“Apart from this, we have prepared a standard operating procedure for PMAY-G housing in tea garden areas. So far 81,638 beneficiaries have been covered under this,” the minister said.

He also said that the state government is planning mass ‘griha pravesh’ celebrations for over 2.5 lakh completed houses.

He said that more than 3,400 masons have been trained in the State to meet the demand of locally skilled manpower for construction of PMAY-G houses.

“A regional conference of nine states of the eastern region will be held in Assam on June 2-3 to monitor the process of implementation of the scheme as well as share best practices among the states,” Das said.
