Chandigarh: The Municipal Corporation (MC) on Thursday issued five. sealed up commercial Building of Industrial Area, Phase-2 for non-payment property tax,
The action was taken after the owners ignored the notices sent by the civic body.
Two of the properties are shops and the rest are commercial booths. “All these properties had to pay tax ranging between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000. Recovery and sealing notices were issued to the owners. As he did not pay any heed to them, the authority was left with no option but to seal the properties,” said sources.
In the evening, a team of the Municipal Corporation visited the industrial area Phase II and sealed the buildings. The team also took the help of Chandigarh Police to conduct the exercise.
MC sources said as the list of tax defaulters is growing, senior officials have issued orders to seal the building. “A comprehensive list of tax defaulters has been prepared. In the coming days, more commercial buildings will be sealed as many have been given 15 days to either deposit tax or face action, an official said.
