Kolhapur: The city administration has generated all 1.57 lakh property tax Bills as early as the third week of the new financial year to allow more people to avail themselves of the 6% rebate for timely payments.
Every financial year, the Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) generates property tax bill in may
Civic officials said the early generation of property tax bills would help generate more revenue for the KMC at the start of the year itself.
KMC gives 6% concession in property tax if the payment is made before June 31. Earlier, many people could not avail the concession as they did not get the bills on time.
Sudhakar ChalwadProperty tax superintendent of KMC said, “Every year the bills are made in May. However, this year, we have been able to generate all the bills much in advance on the KMC website. We are sending the bill through speed post to the address of the property owners.
Chalana said, “Property owners only need to log on to the municipal website or approach citizen facilitation centers and provide their assessment number to check the tax amount and pay the bill.”
Property tax has been issued on a total of 1,57,463 properties for the year 2022-23, which is 2,897 more than the previous year.
In the last financial year, the KMC earned Rs 79 crore through property tax, the highest ever. In this financial year 2023-24, the civic body has set a target of Rs 100 crore.
“For the next financial year, we have set a target of making the property tax bill on the first day of the new financial year, which is April 1. It seems an ambitious target, but the civic administration is hopeful of getting additional staff to do so. Work on the property valuation part in advance,” said Chalavad.
