New Delhi: Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai presented the state budget for 2023-24 on Friday. The government made a provision of Rs 1,066 crore to achieve the target of providing houses to about one lakh people during the next year under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U).
Desai made a provision of Rs 932 crore for the construction of houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G).
The Finance Minister also made a provision of Rs 547 crore under the Smart City Mission.
under Ahmedabad Metro rail project to be started at a cost of Rs 18,000 crore, the first phase of the metro service has been made operational. Phase-2 work is in progress.
Work on Phase-I and Phase-II of the Surat Metro Rail Project, to be launched at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore, is in progress. Desai informed that there is a provision of Rs 905 crore as the government’s share for this project.
The aim of the government is to improve the standard of living of the people in the urban areas through the improvement of basic amenities. He said that development plans and city planning plans will be prepared in advance for planned development with infrastructure facilities in urban areas.
The state government aims to create world-class infrastructure facilities in the next five years with an outlay of about Rs 5 lakh crore.
A total provision of Rs 19,685 crore has been made for the Urban Development and Urban Housing Department. The budget of the department has been increased by 37 percent.
An arrangement of Rs 8086 crore has been made for the Golden Jubilee Chief Minister Urban Development Scheme implemented for basic facilities in municipal corporations, municipalities and urban bodies.
