Andhra Pradesh: Five lakh houses likely to be handed over by end of March

Vijayawada: Officials are working to complete five lakh houses and hand them over to the beneficiaries by the end of March. Officials told the Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said on Friday that work is underway to complete the infrastructure for these houses as well.

He informed the Chief Minister that the Transco officials have also started the work of providing consumer connections to all the ready houses at once.

The Chief Minister said that the government has so far spent Rs 13,780 crore on housing. He said that this year alone the government has spent Rs 7,630 crore on housing. He said that there should be no compromise on the quality of material used in construction.

Officials informed the Chief Minister that 285 tests on metal, 34 tests on cement, 84 tests on steel and 95 tests on brick are conducted to ensure the quality of the material. The officials further informed the Chief Minister that 36 laboratories have been set up across the state to check the quality of construction.

The officials also informed the Chief Minister that construction was stalled in two layouts in Prakasam and Anantapur districts due to court cases. The construction of 30,000 houses was also delayed due to court cases. However, the beneficiaries would find alternate sites and the plots would be handed over to them soon, officials said.

The CM said that the government has spent Rs 20,745 crore on this TIDCO houses Which was started by the previous TDP government. He said that the TDP government has spent only Rs 8,015 crore on these houses. He further said that this government is giving 300 square feet house free of cost to the beneficiaries.
