Jaipur: The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is planning to issue deeds to the residents of the approved colonies. Officials claimed that the urban authority may set up camps from April under the city campaign (2023-24).
“No formal notice has been issued to start the camp. However, once the dates and other schedules are clear, the officials will start the work of setting the same. Last year, the civic body had targeted 150 colonies. A senior JDA official said, this time with the state elections, the number could be higher.
Since 2019, after the Congress government came to power, enforcement officials have razed over 650 illegal colonies across the city. However, JDA regularized some illegal colonies which were old and populous.
“In 2021, the JDA targets to issue around 3 lakh lease deeds to plot owners living in unauthorized colonies in its jurisdiction. This was around 30% of the state government’s total target as it planned to issue at least 10 lakh lease deeds across the state,” said another official.
Officials said the decision was taken as enforcement officials were demolishing new illegal colonies while old ones were unaffected. JDA could not bring them down overnight as they grew over decades.
“Either you demolish them and rehabilitate the residents or convert the land using the JDA Act and issue the deeds. In both cases JDA will generate revenue, and residents will get legal aid,” said an official.
The official said that the JDA has also sent a recommendation to the UD department to regularize construction in colonies near high tension lines.
“If the proposal is accepted, at least 20,000 families in Prithviraj Nagar will get lease deeds for their buildings,” the official said.
