Nannambara Panchayat urges Life Mission to sanction the house

Kozhikode: nonnumber in panchayat Malappuram held an emergency meeting on Tuesday and unanimously passed a resolution urging the officers life mission To sanction houses for three orphan Dalit sisters whose applications for housing were rejected due to technical reasons under the project.

The panchayat said in the resolution that the three sisters are fully eligible for being given houses under the Jeevan Mission, but the current guidelines regarding the selection of beneficiaries are coming in the way of providing houses to them. Sankalp urged Life Mission to accept the sisters’ application as a special case and give them a home by relaxing the project guidelines.

“Our panchayat is meant to give houses to the sisters under the project. The village extension officer (VEO), who is the implementing officer of the project, only told that the current guidelines do not allow them to sanction houses as they are within the family circle. I don’t come,” said the panchayat vice president. C Moosakutty,

Sisters Reshma, Reshmi and Krishnapriya lost their parents years ago and are living with their grandmother in their family home where their uncle and family are also living. Seeing the plight of the orphan sisters, their neighbor MC Kunjutty provided three cents of land free of cost to get them houses approved under the Jeevan Mission.

Reshma had said that the authorities are refusing to give her a house saying that she does not come under the ambit of family including sisters and either she should get married or have a family to be eligible under the scheme.

Moosakutty said that the panchayat is expecting a positive response from the Life Mission officials on giving the house.
