Mohali: Project of housing society hanging in the balance for almost a decade economically weaker sections (EWS) has finally started in Mohali as Greater Mohali Area Development Authority.gamada) has appointed a consultant for the project.
The state cabinet notified the Punjab EWS Housing Policy in August 2021, according to which GMADA will construct houses using brickless technology. GMADA chief administrator Rajeev Gupta said that in the first phase, GMADA would construct 5,000 housing units.
A Public Sector Undertaking of Government of India has recently been roped in through an open selection process as Project Management Consultant (PMC) for this project with basic steps including developing web portal for inviting applications, analyzing market demand, monitoring all construction activities, ensuring its quality and keeping a close watch till handing it over to the concerned RWA.
The EWS housing policy was approved by the cabinet on March 9, 2021. 25,000 EWS houses will be constructed by the Special Urban Planning and Development Authorities under the Housing and Urban Development Department. As per the policy, GMADA will charge only the construction cost, excluding the land cost, for the flats to be given to EWS families.
In total, Gamada will construct 22,000 flats for the EWS, for which the authority has already acquired 230 acres of land for the project. The chief administrator of GMADA said, “A consultant has been appointed to prepare the blueprint. The DRP is also ready and the estimated cost of the project is being calculated. The policy for this was already approved by the Punjab cabinet in 2021.
